Everest Base Camp
(The great circle through the High Land of Everest Region) The world's most famous Everest Transverse Trek via the remote Nangpa Valley and overnight in the Everest Base Camp; cross little use demanding Renjo La (5,340m/17,520ft) and Cho la (5,420m/17,782ft) climb both Gokyo Ri (5357m/19,216ft) and Kala Pattar (5,545m/18,192ft) for magnificent close-up views of Mt. Everest (8,848m/29,028ft), Pumori (7,145m/23,441ft), Ama Dablam (6942m/22776ft), Nuptse (7879m/25,850ft), Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu (8201m/26,906ft) and many other towering peaks. The Everest Transverse trek travels to the remotest parts of the Khumbu Himal and visits all the main valleys of the region. You can explore fascinating Sherpa villages and visit the Buddhist monasteries.
After sightseeing in ancient of Kathmandu you fly up to the mountain airstrip at Lukla and head north along the well-worn trail, which follows the mighty Dudh Kosi River to Kongde Hill and then to Thame. This sizeable Sherpa village is situated at the corner of the Khumbu. Most parties continue to follow well-trodden paths, but you leave the crowds behind and head up the remote Nangpa valley to Marulung; only recently opened to trekkers, this valley was off-limits for many years owing to its proximity to the sensitive Tibetan border. Its un spoilt authentic Sherpa villages offer a unique insight into how the area would have been when Hillary first walked these paths fifty years ago. Your route now takes you across the Renjo La (5,340m/17,520ft) to the cobalt-blue lakes at Gokyo. From your campsite by the lakes you can trek to the farthest reaches of the valley for close range views of Cho Oyu (8201m/26,906ft) and Gyachung Kang (7,922m/25,991ft). You can also make the ascent of Gokyo Ri (5357m/19,216ft) for a unique panoramic view of the Everest massif.
Your trek continues across the Cho La (5,420m/17,782ft) a classic pass which links Gokyo with the Khumbu Glacier and the small settlement of Lubuche. You ascent Kala Pattar (5,545m/18,192ft)for the best views of Everest ;followed by a tough trek along the Khumbu Glacier to Everest Base camp for overnight, and here at the foot of the mountain you can marvel at the spectacle of the great Khumbu icefall cascading from the ramparts of the West ridge. With a sense of achievement and a little remorse, it will be time to head back to Lukla, from where you can catch a flight back to Kathmandu.
